You can book onto our tuition yacht (as a solo, a couple or a group) and liveaboard the yacht and cruise the islands while you learn. Or you can join the tuition yacht as a day pupil staying at our Beach Club. You can also combine a course with a second week on our flotilla so you get to skipper your own yacht in week two.
You can also book the yacht and instructor privately for 2 to 5 persons. All courses can be taught together, so it’s a great way for mixed groups (age 10+) to learn our Youth Sailing, Competent Crew and Day Skipper courses, all at the same time.
You can take any of our courses in a variety of ways: either living aboard our Tuition Yacht or whilst staying at our Beach Club
You can book any course as a solo or a couple; and also book the yacht and instructor privately for 2 to 5 persons. All courses can be taught together, so it’s a great way for mixed groups to learn.
As a liveaboard, you will live on the yacht all week. The course includes 5 days of tuition with one day off. We will include provisioning for breakfast and a light lunch each day and in the evening your instructor will show you some lovely taverna’s for a meal ashore.
Your tuition yacht will cruise around the Ionian and stop at new islands each day*. There’s plenty of time for lunchtime anchorages, paddleboarding and swimming and the yacht will often follow our flotilla so you can benefit from our evening socials and group meals ashore.
*If the yacht has a mix of liveaboard and Beach Club residents learning together, the yacht will return to Vassiliki each night so Beach Club guests can return to our hotel. You can request to join a Liveaboard-only week if you want to cruise the Ionian instead.
Many guests book a space on our tution yacht and earn their certificate while they stay at the Surf Hotel in Vassiliki. This allows mum or dad to get qualified whilst the family enjoy the facilities back at our beach hotel.
You will join the yacht each day in nearby Vassiliki harbour (9-5pm, for 5 days) which is a ten minute walk from our Club. The yacht will return to Vassiliki each evening (at about 5pm) so you can rejoin your family or friends at our Beach Club.
Why not take a course whilst staying on a two week Stay Sail holidays to our Beach Club in Vassiliki. Spend week one enjoying the all inclusive activities and water sports at our Surf Hotel before spending week two aboard our tuition yacht and learning your Competent Crew or Day Skiper as you cruise around the ionians with our instructor.
Many guests will even cram a Day Skipper into week one of a Stay Sail whilst staying at our Beach Club. Then they can spend week two of the holiday skippering their own yacht around the Ionian, on bareboat or flotilla.
Many of our guests will combine a Day Skipper course with a second week on our flotilla so they can practice their newfound skills right away. That way, our expert lead crew will be on hand to continue to assist you during your first steps of skippering.
You can also book a course as part of a two-week Stay Sail to Vassiliki whilst staying at our Beach Club. It’s a great way to get qualified in week one (perhaps while your family relax back at the Club) before joining our flotilla in week two to skipper your own yacht. You will join our tuition yacht each day (9-5pm, 5 days) which is moored close to the Club.
Note: if you are planning to skipper a yacht after the course, should you not pass the Day Skipper, we may be able to award you a Cruising Level 2 certificate to enable you to skipper on our flotilla. If this is not possible, be prepared to pay for an on-board skipper.
You can book our tuition yacht and instructor privately for 2 to 5 persons. All courses can be taught together, so it’s a great way for mixed groups and families (age 10+) to learn at the same time.
As a private charterer, you will need to provision the yacht for breakfast and lunch each day, and remember to allow for your instructor. Private charters have more flexibility to cruise around the Ionian as they learn, and many choose to follow our flotilla. In this instance, your instructor can arrange to sleep aboard our lead boat if private groups would prefer a little more privacy at night, while at anchor.
The valuable Day Skipper qualification suits candidates with some prior experience of yacht sailing, (100 miles or 5 days).

Learn MoreWe often mix the Competent Crew course (12+) with Day Skipper (16+) and our Start Sailing courses (10+) as the different courses compliment each other when taught together. This works really well and encourages families and groups of friends to learn together. Our ratios are normally 4 pupils to 1 instructor, but yachts can take up to 5 pupils.
