International Certificate of Competence (ICC)

About the ICC

If you can already sail but have no piece of paper to prove your ability, then the RYA’s ICC assessment is just what you need. It is a half day assessment with a yacht instructor, for sailors at Day Skipper standard; which, after successful completion will enable you to charter yachts internationally and in Greece. An ICC is required by many European countries to charter a yacht. Once you have it, it is valid for five years. You can take your ICC at a local RYA Training Centre in the UK, or with Ocean Elements in Vassiliki.

How to take your ICC

If you’re planning a Stay & Sail holiday to the Surf Hotel in Vassiliki, it’s the perfect opportunity to take your ICC with us.

If you can already sail (Day Skipper standard) but don’t have an ICC certificate then join our 37 foot training yacht, with our chief instructor for the half day assessment. This works well on a Stay Sail holiday if you want to skipper your own yacht for week two and you need a qualification.

If taking your ICC with us, why not try our ICC Prep course to brush up your skills beforehand? You can also take your ICC at a local RYA Training Centre in the UK before you depart.

ICC Prep course

Why not try our Ocean Elements ICC Prep course to brush up your skills beforehand? You can take this great course whilst staying at the Surf Hotel in Vassiliki and get qualified for skippering your own yacht in week two. It’s a 1-day course which will normally run the day before your assessment on our training yacht based in Vassiliki. Allow 1.5 days for both the prep and assessment.

This is only for guests staying at the Surf Hotel and works well on a Stay Sail holiday if you want to skipper your own yacht for week two.

The ICC prep session is a one day session (7-8 hours) of on-the-water preparation for your ICC. Both the Prep session and exam is done by our Chief Yacht Instructor between July and September only.

Alternative qualifications

If you don’t have an ICC or Day Skipper, then we can also accept an RYA Cruising Level 2 or a Keelboat Level 2 certificate to charter our yachts on flotilla. Complete beginners can take an RYA Cruising Level 2 during our a 4-day Start Yacht Sailing course; or more experienced sailors as a 2-day course at the Surf Hotel in Vassiliki. This works well on a Stay Sail holiday if you want to skipper your own boat for week two.

How to book Call our UK Sales team and ask about taking your ICC with us. The cost is from £90 for the half day assessment, and £100 for the one-day ICC prep course which has 7-8 hours of on-the-water preparation and theory.

The certificate is £40 extra. For RYA Members, there is no charge.
