The Ionians and Argolic Gulf offer sheltered conditions with calm seas and fair to moderate winds and very manageable sailing. Reliable winds from the North West, average Force 2-4 and occasionally 5. Each day is very predictable and follows the same pattern: which starts calm and builds slowly throughout the day to offer exciting sailing before winds die down again at night. Mostly flat water with wavelets in the afternoon. Easy line-of-sight sailing and anchoring.
Wind force 2-3 (4-11 Knots): Predominantly calm winds, flat seas and shorter sailing distances with easy line-of-sight navigation. Good for beginner skippers, families new to sailing and intermediate sailors. The sailing is stress-free and fun and navigation requires basic knowledge of charts and the ability to plot your position.
Winds force 3-5 (7-21 Knots): Gentle winds which build in the afternoon to offer more exciting, but manageable sailing. Longer distances, approximately 15-20nm per day. Mostly line-of-sight navigation, requires basic knowledge of charts and an understanding of how to sail in open water. More intermediate experience is required but within the grasp of most newly qualified beginner Flotilla Skippers.
Winds force 4-6 (11-27 Knots): Moderate winds with small waves and chop in the afternoon. Longer distances (approximately 20nm+ per day). Ideal for experienced skippers looking to explore new destinations. IYT Flotilla or Bareboat Skipper, or RYA Day Skipper qualifications required as standard and at least one more experienced crew member is recommended.
