Wind, Weather and Sailing conditions

Ionian, Lefkas

Level 1-3

  • Mornings: F1-2
  • Afternoons: F3-4

The wind force is generally between 1-3 (4-10 Knots) in the mornings and force 3-4 (7-15 knots) in the afternoons, between May and October. Every day tends to start the same with a very gentle morning and more exciting, but very manageable winds after lunch. Our South Ionian route is very sheltered and has shorter distances, (10-15nm each day), but always the opportunity to extend your sailing.

Our northern route has longer distances (12-20nm and an option to do a 30 miler) and you will be sailing in more open water. Both routes have line-of-sight navigation which requires basic knowledge of charts and an understanding of how to sail in open water.

Both routes are within the capabilities of our newly qualified International (IYT) Flotilla Skippers, or RYA Day Skippers, Keelboat skippers with little experience. The Northern route is preferred by more adventurous beginner skippers with families used to sailing, and open water.

Temperatures reach 32 to 36 degrees in July and August, with little to no rain. Expect warm nights and little need for much in the way of warm clothing.

Aegean, Porto Heli

Level 2-3

  • Mornings: F1-2
  • Afternoons: F3-5

The wind force is generally between 1-3 (4-10 Knots) in the mornings and force 3-5 (7-18 knots) in the afternoons, between May and October. Most days start the same with a gentle morning that gradually builds to offer more exciting, but manageable sailing after lunch.. You can expect longer distances, approximately 15-20nm per day, and mostly line-of-sight navigation which requires basic knowledge of charts and an understanding of how to sail in open water.

More intermediate experience is required, but this cruise is well within the capability of a previously (newly) qualified International (IYT) Flotilla Skipper or RYA Day Skipper with about 150 to 200 miles experience.

There will be plenty of time to top up your tan with temperatures reaching 32 to 36 degrees in July and August, with little to no rain. Expect warm nights and living in your swimming costume with little need for much in the way of warm clothing.
